"As the study notes, the Defense Department recently put the “burn rate” — a term for the sums being spent — for Iraq and Afghanistan at $6.8 billion a month." from http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/natsec/RL33110.pdf

I should point out that that is BILLION not milllion ...
from the Dept. of Education:
$57.6 billion in discretionary appropriations and $31.3 billion in mandatory appropriations

In other words the entire
federal education appropriation for all 50 states could be paid for a little over 4.5 months of OUR money going to fund these debacles in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Special thanks to a good friend fo pointing me at this NY Times article

Be Afraid, be very afraid ....

"Because the plot involved taking liquid explosives aboard planes in carry-ons, passengers at all U.S. and British airports, and those boarding U.S.-bound flights at other international airports, are banned from taking any liquids onto planes."dumping

Doesn't this seem a little dangerous? Doesn't this fellow realize that all the various terrorists were planning on his careless dumping of these confiscated liquids in a crowded public area?

I continue to feel unsafe. I really hope hope they change terror alert color, quickly.
