I should point out that that is BILLION not milllion ...
from the Dept. of Education:
$57.6 billion in discretionary appropriations and $31.3 billion in mandatory appropriations

In other words the entire federal education appropriation for all 50 states could be paid for a little over 4.5 months of OUR money going to fund these debacles in Iraq and Afghanistan.
